Featured Song

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” was written by Jack Norworth and AlbertVon Tilzer in 1908. Ironically, neither composer had ever been to a baseball game before they wrote the song. It has become the unofficial anthem of North American baseball, usually sung during the “seventh inning stretch” portion of a baseball game. When sung, the lyrics are often adapted so that the words “home team” are replaced with the hosting team’s name.

  • Is this melody familiar to you?

  • Are the words familiar?

  • Did you find yourself humming along?

  • How did it affect you? Did your awareness change? Your breath? Your focus? Your mood?

  • Would you feel comfortable playing this in the background and allow yourself to hum or sing along? By yourself and/or with the one(s) you care for?

SELF-CARE TIPS

Give Yourself a Break By Focusing On Your Breath

Try any or all of these:

  • A good old-fashioned deep breath The act of breathing deeply with an intention to relax is powerful. It can help turn a moment of exhaustion and overwhelm into a moment of self-acceptance and calm

  • Humming bee breath (Bhramari Pranayama)

This is a calming, buzzing breath named after the black Indian bee. The vibrations from the humming sound can be very soothing.

    • How to do it: Sit with a straight spine and close your eyes. Inhale deeply through your nose. As you exhale, keep your mouth closed and make a steady, low-pitched humming sound like a bee. You can also place your fingers on the cartilage of your ears to feel the vibration.

  • Lion's breath (Simhasana Pranayama)

This yoga practice is an energizing breath that helps to relieve anxiety and release tension in the face and jaw.

    • How to do it: Inhale deeply through your nose. On the exhale, open your mouth wide, stick your tongue out towards your chin, and make a strong, audible "haaaaa" sound from the back of your throat. Roll your eyes up to look at the space between your eyebrows.
